   Our Urban Programme in Brazil was a four year project in Brazil to improve quality of housing and basic services for low-income families in shanty towns and tenement blocks of São Paulo.

1. Evaluation: Nigeria - Improving Primary Health Care

   In response to the challenges of primary healthcare delivery system in Nigeria, the European Commission (EC) and CAFOD developed a programme to improve the quality of Primary Health Care (PHC) services.

   The Humanitarian Assistance Programme had been designed as an emergency response to the 2008 drought, economic and political situation that was threatening the lives of many rural Zimbabweans.

3. Evaluation: Psychosocial Support and Community Cohesion Programme in Rwanda

   Shortly after the genocide of approximately 800,000 Tutsis in Rwanda in 1994 CAFOD started to provide humanitarian aid and psychological assistance to the deeply affected survivors, through the provision of technical and financial support to several local partner organisations.

   The Building Resilient Pastoralist Communities (BRPC) project was managed by a consortium of CAFOD, Trocaire, SCIAF and Cord-aid and implemented by six Ethiopian partner organisations.

5. Evaluation of Natural Resources Conservation and Livelihoods Innovation in Maizegzeg, Ethiopia

   The ‘Innovative Livelihoods Learning Initiative Project’ in Ethiopia was implemented over four years (2007-2011). The project interventions brought significant improvement in the natural resource basis as well as the livelihoods of the community.

7. Evaluation: The integrated community HIV and AIDS programme (with Comic Relief)

   The Integrated Community HIV and AIDS programme began in August 2008 and was completed in July 2011. The overall goal of the project was to provide adults and children affected by HIV and AIDS in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania with HIV prevention education, treatment, care and support through local community based interventions in order to improve their quality of life.

   The Integrated Peace and Livelihoods Programme (IPLP) is one of several development projects currently funded by CAFOD, run by the Catholic Diocese of Maralal.

10. Evaluation: CAFOD/CDTY Emergency Intervention Western Equatoria, Southern Sudan 2009-2010

    During 2009, attacks attributed to the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), in Sudan, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic, caused mass displacement in the region. Approximately 87,000 were displaced in Southern Sudan, including 65,000 IDPs and 12,000 refugees in Western Equatoria State.

   CAFOD’s partner SOS Sahel Ethiopia and Action For Development implemented the pastoralist food security partnership project in Ethiopia from September 2006 until February 2010.

   A large part of the rural areas of Ethiopia has been affected by recurrent drought. Food insecurity, natural resources degradation, in adequate water supply, hygiene and sanitation are major problems affecting the largest portion of society. The overall objective of the project was to improve food security though stabilising pastorals livelihoods. To realise this, the project focused on improving management and use of key natural resources, livestock marketing and income diversification, and strengthening traditional systems working in partnership with government development actors on food security issues.

   The project was funded by EC, CAFOD/Trócaire and Christian Aid. The evaluation exercise was carried out during February 2010.
