Densely populated Bangladesh faces many challenges, including rising sea levels and frequent cyclones.

Most of Bangladesh’s 144 million people live on less than $2 a day. They depend on agriculture to make a living and feed their families. But the low-lying geography of the country makes it extremely vulnerable to flooding and the effects of climate change.

Food insecurity now means the country has two million malnourished children and the highest rate of underweight children in South Asia. Frequent natural disasters such as floods and cyclones and continuous river erosion cause families to lose their homes and crops.

Stigma and discrimination against women and the country's large disabled population worsen the levels of extreme poverty. Abdur Rahim has faced discrimination because of his disability. Our partner, Action on Disability and Development brings disabled people together in groups to talk about the problems they are facing and to demand change.

Since I've been involved with the group, I get more respect in the workplace and from the local leaders. It has helped me find a place in the community. I have a dream that I can become a local leader myself, and this will help me to do something for other disabled people."

– Abdur Rahim
