And it works. Through letters and meetings with MPs, CAFOD supporters have already grabbed ministers’ attention and changed government policy. We’ve helped secure tough laws to cut carbon emissions and tackle climate change, and to hold UK companies accountable for bribery carried out by their employees anywhere in the world.

Like with any relationship, getting to know your MP means keeping in contact, by writing to them and joining with others to meet them. When you meet your MP, campaigners across England and Wales will be meeting their MPs too. Together, you’re a force to be reckoned with.

First steps

  • Don't worry about not being an expert. Chances are your MP isn't either. Armed with CAFOD's briefings and background, and your conviction and passion, you'll be a force to be reckoned with.
  • Get to know your MP – follow them on twitter and send them a tweet or two, or look them up online.
  • Find everything you need to get inspired and get started, in our MP Correspondent starter pack.
  • Sign up below to become an MPC. We'll send you everything you need, and can even put you in touch with other campaigners in your constituency.

As an MP I can tell you that there is nothing more powerful than contacting your MP directly. A constituent has more influence over their MP than any number of powerful lobbying groups.”

– Greg Mulholland MP, Leeds North West
