UK Unearth Justice campaign

In our parishes, we can be part of a local community called to change the world. It’s a safe bet that there will be people in a pew near you keen to put their faith into action to tackle injustice, but not sure how. This is where you come in.

Simply put a notice in the newsletter or a campaign poster on the wall. Why not follow it up with a short talk after Mass? Then encourage your fellow parishioners to sign a card or a petition, and send these back to CAFOD. Don’t forget to let them know about the impact of their actions.

During our Unearth Justice campaign for responsible gold mining, parishes made ‘gold chains’ of paper links. It brought communities together with a shared purpose. Each link was signed by a different person and the complete chain was presented to jewellers. The result? Seven major UK jewellery retailers signed up to our ‘golden rules’ for responsible mining to protect poor people and the environment.

I campaign as a tangible way of expressing my faith. Our parish priest is supportive and sees action as just as important as fundraising."
