Asia floods: how we are helping
Heavy monsoon rains have devastated the lives of millions of people across South and East Asia
Devastating floods have killed hundreds of people and destroyed crops, homes, schools and jobs.
We are in close contact with our partners in Cambodia, Bangladesh, Thailand and Pakistan and are working together to ease suffering and save lives.
How we are responding
We have pledged £20,000 to our partner, Caritas Cambodia who is providing emergency food rations and tents for families affected by flooding. Some people have been forced to leave their homes for higher ground where access to safe drinking water is restricted.
In Bangladesh, where people are suffering from waterborne diseases and struggling to cope with loss of jobs, our partners are working to restore hope.
Our partner Dhaka Ahsania Mission is providing nearly 7,000 families with emergency food, clothing and water purification tablets. Caritas Bangladesh is planning a cash-for-work scheme to repair homes and buildings and provide income for people who have lost their way of earning a living.
In Pakistan, families still recovering from the floods of 2010 are now having to cope with more floods - and floods have hit new areas as well. We have pledged £400,000 in emergency relief that is helping more than 5,500 families in Sindh province. This is providing food, shelter, hygiene kits, hygiene training and water purification tablets.
