Syria: preparing for the winter
With temperatures dropping, we are supporting people forced from their homes by the conflict in Syria.
Pray for peace in the Middle East>>
Since protests against the government of Bashar al-Assad began in March 2011, war in Syria has led to the deaths of thousands of people and driven more than 1.5 million people from their homes. Today, with temperatures dropping sharply, many families have little idea how they are going to cope through the winter.
Thanks to your compassion, we are supporting trusted local partners in Syria and Lebanon, who are providing food parcels, blankets, clothes and medical aid to people who have been forced from their homes.
In a recent speech at the Houses of Parliament, Bishop Antoine Audo, President of Caritas Syria, said:
“Aleppo, the city I love so much and where I have been bishop this past 20 years, is now devastated – much of it is in ruins... As President of Caritas Syria, I am coordinating emergency relief efforts for tens of thousands of people desperately lacking food, medical care and shelter. They, like all of us, are frightened. They do not know what the future will be.”
We are extremely concerned by the ongoing conflict in Syria, and call on all sides to act with great restraint. Please keep all those affected in your thoughts and prayers.
