CAFOD supports World Humanitarian Day
The UN and aid agencies around the world are calling on as many people as possible to “do something good, somewhere, for someone else” on World Humanitarian Day – Sunday 19 August.
Every year, World Humanitarian Day celebrates those who face danger and hardship to help others. In particular, it recognises the contribution of aid workers, who help millions of people affected by disasters each year.
This year’s World Humanitarian Day campaign – “People helping People” – is about inspiring the spirit of aid work in everyone. You can find out more, and add your voice to a global call for compassion, by visiting http://whd-iwashere.org/
Our humanitarian work
Thank you for supporting our humanitarian work over the last year. Your remarkable generosity has enabled us to respond to emergencies throughout the world - from floods in El Salvador to a cyclone in the Philippines, from drought in East Africa to the refugee crisis caused by fighting in Syria.
Because we work with local Churches, we are able to reach areas that other aid agencies can’t, like remote parts of South Sudan. And because we’re part of Caritas International – a coalition of Catholic agencies around the world – we have partner agencies with local expertise in almost every country in the world.
To find out what life is really like for one of our humanitarian team, read CAFOD's Nyika Musiyazwiriyo describe a visit to a refugee camp in South Sudan. Or watch Cleophas Maragia, who works for our partner the Diocese of Maralal, talk about delivering food to a remote village in Kenya.
