CAFOD youth join Pope Francis in Rio for World Youth Day
Young CAFOD supporters are in Brazil with millions of other young Catholics for World Youth Day where Pope Francis will celebrate Mass.
The group of nine young men and women from different dioceses across England and Wales will also have a chance to visit CAFOD programmes and see first-hand how money raised in parishes in England and Wales are helping to support homeless people and families struggling to survive.
Aisling Gallagher, 21, a volunteer youth worker from Basildon in Essex, said:
“To see the Pope in Rio will be an incredible experience, I’m hoping it will help me to grow as a person and in my faith. I am very, very excited to be a part of CAFOD’s work. It will be the first time I have done anything like it and seen the struggles people go through first hand. I’ve had a countdown on my phone ever since I found out I was going. It will be amazing to see a South American Pope back on his own turf.”
