Congratulations to our Team CAFOD London Marathon runners!
A big thank you and congratulations to everyone who completed the London Marathon on Sunday!
The sun shone and the crowds cheered, as all 17 of our runners completed the challenging race ending on the famous Mall in Central London.
Family and friends were joined by CAFOD staff and volunteers to cheer, clap and wave our runners along the route. There was also a great turnout at our CAFOD post-race reception, a fantastic opportunity to meet our team and thank them in person for their dedication, training and hard work!
James from Chesterfield completed the gruelling 26-mile race from Blackheath to Buckingham Palace, in 4 hours and 30 minutes, and says it was tougher than any of the training he did in the TA. Speaking after the race on Sunday, he said: "“I was OK until Mile 20, but the crowd and the adrenaline kept me going!"
Father-and-son team James and Joe Finch went round the course in 4 hours 50 minutes, and 3 hours 6 minutes respectively, and they said that the crowds drawn to the event as a result of the tragedy in Boston made a huge difference.
James, an electrician from Brentwood, suffered a knee injury at the 3 mile mark, but says the crowds helped him through the pain barrier to complete his second marathon.
And Marianne, 27, of Elmslack Lane, Silverdale, completed the course in 4 hours and 45 minutes. Marianne – who is approaching her final year of medical training at University College London – said after the race:
“I had to pull out of the 2012 marathon due to a bad knee injury brought on by too much running. But I was determined to re-enter this year, and I would have walked it if I had to. I kept waiting to hit the wall on Sunday, but I managed to keep running. Even when it was a hard slog, the crowds were really good and got me through.”
Thank you again to everybody that took part or went along on the day to cheer- your fundraising will go towards helping those who need it most overseas.
