We’d like to say a big thank you to everybody that took part and dressed up on Saturday 18th December for CAFOD’s inaugural Nativity Run.

Shepherds, wise men (and women!), sheep, stars and camels came together to run or walk 5km with friends and family. With mince pies, live music, and a brilliant festive atmosphere thousands of pounds were raised for our work around the world. Click here for costumes from the photo booth.

Here’s what a few participants had to say:

25-year-old solicitor Rachel Eardley from SW London dressed as Joseph and raised over £300. Through her beard she said, “CAFOD’s Nativity Run is a great idea done really well. I’ve loved getting into my costume and running the course with my friends. I’d definitely recommend it to anybody of any age – families, young professionals, anybody. The mulled wine at the post-race celebration was a great finishing touch.”

North London charity worker Victoria Ahmed dressed as a Shepherd, complete with homemade sheep. She said, “What a great day! The fancy dress, live music and mince pies at the finish line all help get people into the Christmas spirit. It’s a brilliant way to raise money for CAFOD’s life saving work around the world.”

Three generations of the Carlyle Family joined in fancy dress. From SE London parents Ian and Katherine Carlyle (Mary and Joseph), their children Jack (sheep), Emily (angel) and William (star) joined grandparents Frank and Christine Hayward (shepherds) at the run.

Ian said, “Our whole family are walking the course together. Across three generations we’ve got two shepherds, Mary and Joseph, an angle, a sheep and a tiny star. It’s a fun opportunity to start celebrating Christmas as a family and raise money for a cause that is important to us.”
