Chris Bain, Director of CAFOD, has welcomed the Treasury’s decision to remove the proposed cap on tax relief on charitable donations, following a campaign by CAFOD and hundreds of other charities concerned at the impact it would have on our charitable work.

“At a time when CAFOD is celebrating a record Lent fundraising appeal, it is clear that the spirit of charity is alive and well in Britain, and as a nation - even in tough times - we are continuing to give generously to help others who are less fortunate.

That is why it was so important that the tax relief for genuine philanthropists supporting genuine charities remained in place, and we are delighted that the Chancellor has listened with care and acted with wisdom on our concerns.

Successive governments have acted in partnership with charities to support giving. Today's decision ensures that partnership will continue as strongly as ever, enabling charities like ours to keep up our vital work helping those in the greatest need."
