Job Profile
We are seeking an additional voluntary HR committee member to bring specific experience of strategic HR in the INGO sector. The HR Committee is a sub-committee which advises CAFOD’s Board of Trustees. Meeting twice a year with the Director of Organisational Development and People and the Head of Human Resources and Learning, the committee members provide advice and steer on strategic matters relating to Human Resources and Organisational Development.
Your role
The committee is responsible for setting the salary for the director of CAFOD and for advising on the principles that govern the organisation’s pay and benefits strategy. Once a year there is also a meeting with the representatives of the UK staff’s recognised trade union, Unite. There may occasionally be additional meetings for exceptional circumstances.
The Committee formally meets twice a year, in spring and autumn. However, additional committee or individual meetings may be requested as circumstances demand. Generally, the total demand on time is no more than 20 hours a year.
Your profile
The right person will have an understanding of international development and humanitarian work. Whilst it is not essential to have a specialist HR background, an appreciation of strategic people issues in a multinational organisation is important.
CAFOD’s work is underpinned by values and mission driven by Catholic Social Teaching and, though the role is open to those of any or no faith, commitment to our core values and an appreciation of what it means to work in a faith based organisation is desirable.
