Though a predominantly agricultural country, fertile, arable land is scarce and competition for resources often leads to conflict and environmental damage as land is overused

As a regional trade hub with tourist-filled safaris and economic growth, Kenya has a lot of potential, so it is a sad fact that bad governance and corruption is worsening inequality and conflict.

Disputed 2007 elections and the violence that followed caused huge displacement and, with the political conflicts not decisively dealt with, the country has been set back in its path to development.

CAFOD spent £2,386,000 in Kenya in 2008/09

Our regional office in Nairobi works with church partners to tackle corruption head-on, and support communities facing recurring drought, a changing climate, and living with HIV.
