Southern Sudan votes to separate from the north

The final results from the referendum in Sudan show that the people of the south have voted overwhelmingly to form a separate nation. But although the vote was largely peaceful, huge challenges lie ahead.

Sudan: Eve of referendum sees final prayers before vote

The future of Sudan will enter a critical period next week as the country’s southerners vote in a referendum that starts on Sunday and continues throughout the week. Both sides have issued reassurances that they will respect the results of the referendum on Southern independence.
