Where to Connect2

Your Parish can choose to follow a community in one of these six countries. Hear from local people, find out about their lives, and swap messages of support.

El Salvador

In 1980, Archbishop Oscar Romero was killed for speaking out against poverty. Decades later, most El Salvadorians still live on less than a dollar a day. In Puentecitos a rural village to the west of the counrty, people are improving the community by opening small businesses and using organic farming methods. Want to find out more? Go to Connect2: El Salvador .

Cambodia

What do you think you know about Cambodia? You might think of magical ancient temples and Buddhist monks. But did you know that many ordinary communities are being forced off their land to make way for development? Go to Connect2: Cambodia and meet the people from Samrong Mean Chey who are working hard for a safe and secure future.

Brazil

When you think of Brazil, what comes to mind? Beautiful beaches? Famous footballers? But what about the daily lives of unsung heroes in Saõ Paulo, one of the world’s most dangerous cities? Go to Connect2: Brazil to meet people who are tackling human rights abuses and severe housing shortages which force many into shanty towns or onto the streets.

Bangladesh

Imagine if your home was constantly under threat from cyclones and floods. What would you do? In Kainmari, southern Bangladesh, people are doing whatever it takes to adapt to their unpredictable climate. Go to Connect2: Bangladesh and find out how limitless energy, determination and hope are
helping people fight back.

Rwanda

How does a country recover from the horror of genocide? In Musha, eastern Rwanda, the community is involved in trauma counselling, house rebuilding and skills training to help them live without fear. Visit Connect2: Rwanda and find out why friendship, laughter and courage are inspiring people to make Rwanda, known as the ‘land of a thousand hills’, a peaceful place for future generations.

Ethiopia

In Biera, northern Ethiopia, drought is threatening the farming way of life – and hundreds of families who rely on the land for survival. The community is fighting back. Local people have built reservoirs to collect water from mountain streams. The result? Harvests have improved but more must be done to prevent hunger, both now and in the future. Go to Connect2: Ethiopia to hear how farmers are overcoming drought.
