Ideas for your event
Hundreds of parishes, churches and schools in England and Wales raise money for CAFOD's work. There are lots of exciting ways you can get involved
Through Lent and Harvest Fast Days, Friday self-denial collections and a host of other creative fundraising events, you too can play a part.
There's a whole range of creative and fun ways to raise money - here are just a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing!
Rich world, poor world meal
Sell 100 tickets for a meal. When the guests arrive, pull ten names out of a hat. Sit these guests at the "rich" table and provide them with a three-course meal and wine.
For the "poor" majority you can provide a simple soup with bread and water (you can have fewer people, just work on a ratio of one rich to nine poor). The poor can heckle the rich as they consume more than their fair share.
Quizzes
Make up a themed quiz on a focus country or a third world issue, or simply buy a pub-quiz book and test people’s general knowledge.
Auctions & jumble sales
Sell donated goods or people’s skills and time to the highest bidder (for example, three hours’ gardening, or a car wash). Cakes, books, home-made jam, bric-a-brac and fairtrade goods are firm favourites.
International food evening
Invite each member of your group to buy a ticket and brings a dish from a different part of the world to share. You can co-ordinate who is bringing what, or just wait and see what turns up!
Exhibitions & summer fairs
At flower shows, festivals, and concerts, remember to put a donation box for CAFOD in a prominent place, or make CAFOD a beneficiary of the proceeds.
Splash for Cash
Make a splash in your local pool! How many laps can you and your friends swim for CAFOD?
Cakes that make a difference
Make some cakes from Fairtrade ingredients and sell them to raise money and awareness for CAFOD
Change 4 Change
Put your spare change in a CAFOD box and learn how that money makes a difference in poorer parts of the world
Talent show
If you've got it, flaunt it! Like to sing, dance, tell jokes or play a musical instrument? Why not organise a talent show in your school or parish and sell tickets for the big event
Ssshhhh!
Sponsored silence. Can you last an hour without talking? Rise to the challenge, while raising money for CAFOD. A real popular one with teachers, who like to challenge their whole class!
Trading places
Swap places for the day, so children get to dress in their own clothes while the teachers wear the school uniform
Swap Shop
Recycle toys and games and organise a school bring and buy sale
Whatever you choose to do, let CAFOD know what you did and what worked best. We always like to hear your ideas and who knows, we may end up using them again ourselves.
Thank you!
