Gaza: Take action now to end blockade

Send a personal letter to Foreign Secretary, William Hague, to call for international pressure for a full lifting of the Israeli blockade on Gaza.

With the eyes of the world focused on Gaza, the UK government has an opportunity to show real leadership in bringing about an end to the crippling four year blockade.

Progress has already been made. The blockade has been partially lifted. But for the sake of the people of Gaza, now is the time to end blockade for good.

The government has shown willingness to act:

"There can be no better response from the international community to this tragedy than to achieve urgently a durable resolution to the Gaza crisis.” William Hague, 1 June 2010.

“The blockade is neither justified nor sustainable… it has created a humanitarian catastrophe. This incident has shown that we need to move towards removing the blockade.” Nick Clegg, 2 June 2010.

Our government can help keep up the pressure to lift the blockade of Gaza, allowing the free movement of people, humanitarian aid and commercial goods.

Please show your support for bold action by sending a personal letter to the Foreign Secretary, William Hague.

Writing a letter is one of the most powerful actions you can take. It sends a strong signal to politicians that this is an issue that this is an issue that matters deeply to you. Some sample text is provided below.

take action to end the blockade

Please write a letter to the Foreign Secretary, William Hague, calling for international pressure to help fully lift the blockade on Gaza. You may want to write your own text or you can use the text below.

Dear Foreign Secretary,

I welcome the UK government’s expressions of deep concern over the blockade on Gaza, now entering its fourth year, and the progress being made in partially lifting the blockade. The people of Gaza are still being denied the materials they need to reconstruct and rebuild their homes and livelihoods and this situation cannot be allowed to continue.

With the eyes of the world focused on Gaza, the UK government can show international leadership to help fully lift the blockade, allowing the free movement of people, humanitarian aid and commercial goods.

As a CAFOD supporter, I urge you now to make this happen.

Yours sincerely,

[your name]
