CAFOD is the official Catholic aid agency for England and Wales

Volunteer with us

What can you do as a volunteer?

Volunteers are a vital part of the work we do in the dioceses around the UK – helping to run our busy offices, visiting schools and youth groups to talk about our work, or organising sponsored events and campaign actions.

Get inspired by our volunteers

Melanie Cunningham is a CAFOD schools volunteer, and relishes her important role: "Having just walked away from a long career at Marks and Spencer I was wondering what I was going to do next… so the appeal in the parish newsletter for a schools volunteer working for CAFOD caught my eye.

"It’s an important role. If I can encourage just one child to support CAFOD in the future then, as far as I’m concerned, that's job done."

How can we help you?

Whatever you choose to do, you will have the full support of CAFOD staff and other volunteers. All our volunteers are offered training, covering a range of topics including speaking on behalf of CAFOD.

We also provide you with presentation aids and materials for your parish or school.

Where to start?

If you can offer some of your time to promote our work in your parish, school or dioceses, then please contact your local CAFOD diocesan office to find out what is available. From time to time, we also publish specific volunteering positions on this page which might be of interest for you.

Campaigns Volunteer

Closing date: 22 February 2012

CAFOD’s Campaigns Team is responsible for mobilising the Catholic constituency in England and Wales to take action on global injustice and challenge the structural systems which keep people in poverty. As the coalition government takes steps to implement their international policy on aid, business and climate change, we want to ensure justice for the world’s poorest people.

This voluntary role would ideally involve a commitment of 3 days a week, for a minimum of 2 months, although the terms and conditions of this placement can be negotiated. You must have a keen interest in campaigning on international development issues. Your role will include helping with section administration and the general running of the campaigns team, as well as opportunities to develop your skills in helping with logistics and planning around our campaign supporter days and larger coalition events. This role is suited to someone interested in a career in advocacy, seeking to gain experience of campaigning.

Please read attached Job Description for more details. To apply, please email your CV and a covering letter to alecomte@cafod.org.uk or call Armelle on 020 7095 5414 for more details.
