CEREAL representatives meet with senior managers from IBM, Hewlett Packard, Dell and other computer manufacturers for the first time

CAFOD's Clean Up Your Computer campaign has reached a new milestone with representatives of Mexican labour rights group CEREAL meeting with senior managers from the major computer manufacturers for the first time.

This was the first time that CEREAL had been able to raise concerns directly with organisations including IBM, Hewlett Packard, and Dell.

This is a big shift for CEREAL. Until now, their main work has been providing legal advice and support to workers

Anne Lindsay, CAFOD

“This is a big shift for CEREAL,” says CAFOD policy analyst Anne Lindsay, who attended the meetings. “Until now, their main work has been providing legal advice and support to workers.”

CAFOD will now be able to step back from its intermediary role and allow workers’ representatives to monitor progress and speak with the computer companies themselves.

We will of course continue to support CEREAL in this new role.
