CAFOD campaigners take Act on Poverty direct to No.10

CAFOD Director Chris Bain and actor David Harewood were part of a group who took CAFOD’s message on poverty right to the heart of government today.

They visited No.10 alongside passionate CAFOD campaigners to represent the 20,000 CAFOD supporters who have taken action as part of our Act on Poverty campaign.

Long-standing CAFOD campaigner Des Howells from Wanstead (east London), and young campaigners Luke and Hannah also came knocking on Cameron’s door.

The Act on Poverty campaign has been calling for the new coalition government to protect the poorest and most vulnerable by:

  • pushing for a fair climate change deal at the UN
  • honouring the commitment to spend 0.7 per cent of national income on aid by 2013
  • ensuring businesses are accountable to people in poor countries affected by their operations
Actor David Harewood and CAFOD director Chris Bain act on poverty with CAFOD supporters
CAFOD campaigners Des Howells, Luke and Hannah join actor David Harewood and CAFOD director Chris Bain to hand over 20,000 signatures to No. 10, calling for action on poverty.

Chris Bain reiterated the need for the government to take strong and decisive action on these crucial issues in the months and years ahead, whilst Blood Diamond star David Harewood spoke about the difference each individual can make in challenging poverty and injustice.

Des, Luke and Hannah spoke of their excitement as they delivered the action cards and even caught a glimpse of the Prime Minister inside the door!

Thank you to the thousands of CAFOD supporters who took to the pavements and the pews to call on the government to Act on Poverty over the summer. We will keep you posted on the response from No. 10.
