We welcome the challenge of working with government in mobilising people on the issue of climate change

After the announcement by Energy and Climate Change Secretary Ed Miliband that NGOs and the government must work together for a fair deal at this December’s Copenhagen UN negotiations, we say faith-based NGOs are perfectly placed to help the campaign.

Neil Thorns, CAFOD head of advocacy, says: "Stewardship of the environment is at the heart of much religious teaching and belief.

"For us, looking after the climate is a moral priority as well as a political issue and we have a massive constituency of support across all faiths for meaningful and successful campaigning.

"CAFOD and its supporters have a history of speaking out on world-changing important issues such as aid and debt. Faith-based organisations work right at the heart of communities to spread the message of climate change.

"This year is crunch time for the environment and the poorest people who are already affected most by climate change and we are ready for the challenge of getting that message out."
