Burma/Myanmar: two earthquakes hit north-east

Map of Myanmar
Myanmar

North-east Burma/Myanmar has been rocked by two 7.0 magnitude earthquakes, close to the borders with Laos and Thailand.

According to official estimates, 74 people have been killed in the quake and 125 people have been injured. There has been widespread damage to buildings.

We have spoken with our local church partner in Yangon who is in contact with diocesan offices close to the epicentres of the quakes.

We will remain in touch with our partner as the situation unfolds and ask you to keep the people of Burma in your thoughts and prayers.
