Brazil: Homes for the homeless: life in a flophouse

Video Story: Brazil's largest city, Sao Paulo is home to a momentous 11 million people - more than two million live in corrugated shacks, one million in run-down tenement buildings and, with jobs hard to find, 15,000 are living on the streets

CAFOD partner APOIO is lobbying the government to deal with a housing crisis and is helping homeless people claim some of the city’s disused buildings.

CAFOD partner Apoio, offers Sao Paulo’s homeless alternatives to life on the street or living in crumbling, rat-infested ‘flophouses’, where they pay exorbitant rents. They are lobbying the government to deal with this housing crisis and helping homeless people claim some of the city’s disused buildings.
