CAFOD response to International Development Committee report
CAFOD response to The International Development Committee report on the Draft International Development (Official Development Assistance Target) Bill
23/03/10
Dr Amy Pollard, CAFOD's aid effectiveness policy analyst, says:
"Legislation to protect aid is important as it will ensure aid budgets are defended in future years when they might lack political support. Whoever forms the next government has an opportunity to make critical improvements to this draft legislation, and ensure that a full Bill will have 'teeth'. CAFOD would like to see all political parties commit in their manifestos to bring this legislation forward in the next Parliament. People in developing countries are still feeling the hardest edges of the financial crisis, they have the least resources to cushion the impact of the global economic down-turn, which is not of their making and so need our assistance and commitment more than ever."
