More than 60 cyclists, aged from four to 80, took part in CAFOD Westminster's recent "Pedal against Poverty" sponsored bike ride and have so far raised more than £5,000
The Pedal against Poverty event, which took place in the Lee Valley on Sunday June 10, was heralded as a great success.
The riders followed a route between Ponders End (North London) and Broxbourne, Hertfordshire.
Riders pedalled alongside the River Lee before winding between the lakes of the pretty Lee Valley Country Park surrounded by wildlife in the Hertfordshire countryside.
A picnic stop in the lush parkland gave the riders an opportunity to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings as well as to pray for people living in poverty throughout the world.
"By riding my bike I was keeping fit, protecting the environment and helping poor communities overseas – everyone wins!" said rider Louise Weaver.
"We have been overwhelmed by the generous sponsorship we have received for the bike ride," said CAFOD Westminster manager Tony Sheen.
"We have already raised over £5,000. That’s enough to provide bicycles for 100 healthcare workers in rural Nigeria to enable them to reach their patients more quickly and easily, and money is still coming in."
