Warning about email scam

CAFOD supporters should beware an email scam currently being circulated, claiming to be from an Alex Perez, Finance Director of CAFOD

With the subject line "Hello!", the email claims to offer the chance to a get a "good Part-Time paying job in which you could earn a lot", but also says that, if the recipient does not want a job, but would like to donate instead, they can do so by providing personal information.

It also includes an application form to be filled in and returned to an email address of "alex.cafod@gmail.com".

CAFOD stresses that this email has been compiled and emailed out fraudently, and warns anyone receiving it to immediately delete it from their system, and report that they have received such spam to their IT department or supplier.

It would appear those writing the email have used publicly-available information about CAFOD and our work in order to attempt to give the scam an air of authenticity.

Alison Fenney, CAFOD director of advocacy and communications, says: "We are rigorously investigating the source of this spam email and would like to assure supporters that we do not condone any such behaviour designed to exploit the excellent reputation CAFOD enjoys worldwide for our hard work.

"We would also like to make it clear that CAFOD has a strict policy never to send out unsolicited emails anyway - only those who have specifically requested email communications will be contacted in this way by us."
