Through its partners in the region, CAFOD is supporting the relief effort for those affected by the earthquake which struck Java, Indonesia, on May 27, 2006

The quake, measuring 6.2, flattened buildings in a densely-populated area south of the city of Yogyakarta, near the southern coast of Java.

It is estimated that more than 5,000 people were killed, and up to 200,000 people forced to flee their homes after the quake hit early in the morning.

CAFOD has sent an emergency grant of £25,000 to its partner, JRS, in Indonesia. If you wish to donate, please do so via our Emergency Response Fund .
