Pedro's story
Parts of the city of Recife in north-east Brazil have murder rates as high as some war zones. CAFOD partner, Growing the peace organises activities to bring communities together and create a positive alternative to a reality where drugs, crime and killings are an everyday experience. Twelve-year-old Pedro explains how young people are taking part in an eco-action project to encourage their local community to plant trees, recycle and improve their environment.

Fabiana's story
Seven-year-old Fabiana and her family grow cassava, which they grind into flour to sell at the local market. As more families produce cassava flour, the price is falling and trees are being cut down to clear the land for the crops. CAFOD partner CIMI-Tefe is helping families like these find alternative ways to make a living such as beekeeping, making traditional crafts and producing brazil nuts to export.
