Held on September 21, there were 3,000 runners in this year's 10K and also over 600 in the Primary Care Trust's 3K Fun Run

A record-breaking number of runners lined up for the Middlesbrough 10k road race, while hundreds of spectators cheered friends and family along the route.

Under hazy blue skies, Team CAFOD's runners included a GP, teaching assistant and an engineer, who all completed the 10K in under one hour. Well done to all of them!

Running as a team

Joy Shaw, Andy Bearne and Paddy O'Neill proudly carried the flag for CAFOD - even pushing running legend Steve Cram to the limit.

Our runners ran as a team and said, although three of them unfortunately had to pull out, this shouldn't affect the sponsorship as they were raising the funds together rather than as individuals.

People of all abilities joined in both races. Some people even walked the 10K, including three CAFOD supporters who did it in under 90 minutes.

The course is one lap, flat and marked at each kilometre and, with full road closures, makes it ideal for all including those attempting a personal best.

Local radio station Century FM provided entertainment from the main stage throughout the morning - including music and live bands.

Bands also played at strategic points around the course, creating a tremendous atmosphere to help every runner enjoy and complete the course.

The Race Patron is Dame Tanni Grey Thompson, who said: “I have been really impressed how the Middlesbrough Tees Pride 10k race has grown in just two years.

"It’s one of the fastest 10k races for serious runners and a good distance for fun runners. Almost anyone with some training can manage 10k.

"I can see the race growing and growing and the tremendous support of the people of Middlesbrough around the course has made it a race that I would want to keep competing in.”
