Walk in the Park
Sunday 25th April saw CAFOD Salford’s annual fundraiser, A Walk in the Park, enter its fifth year.
The event was well supported with over 100 runners/walkers completing the 5km/2km route around the lovely grounds of Heaton Park in Manchester.
Local CAFOD supporters from St Joseph’s Parish in Todmorden took part in this year’s event to raise funds for CAFOD. “The atmosphere was great at the start of the course, especially as I was with my family and fellow parishioners. The thought of raising money for CAFOD and helping poor people around the world really spurred us on,” said Julie Wadsworth, the CAFOD Parish Contact for St Joseph’s.
The Walk in the Park hopes to raise around £3,000 this year for water projects in various countries around the world.
Another participant at this year’s event was Matt Coppock, who completed the 5km run. Matt was joined by his wife Andrea and his two young children: Georgia and Tristan who all finished the 2km walk. This was the first time Matt has taken part in the run, but he was still able to finish in a very commendable fourth place with a good time. After the race Matt said: “the time doesn’t really matter, it was great to be here with my family and the main thing is I hope to raise some money. CAFOD help some of the world’s poorest people to lift themselves out of poverty.”
