Climate justice - the story so far
CAFOD supporters have been campaigning for climate justice since 2008. Just look at what we’ve achieved!
|
2008: UK Climate Change Act: We lobbied MPs for three key changes to this piece of legislation – more ambitious emission cuts, annual checkpoints, and the inclusion of emissions from shipping and aviation - and we got them all. As a result, the UK became the first country in the world to make emissions cuts a legal requirement. |
2009: Climate Justice: Over 60,000 CAFOD supporters joined thousands more campaigners to call for a legally binding global deal on climate change. Archbishop Desmond Tutu presented 512,984 campaign actions at UN climate talks in Copenhagen. The pressure for ambitious action continues to mount. |
2010: Big Climate Connection Supporters lobbied 220 MPs across the UK. As part of the Stop Climate Chaos coalition, CAFOD campaigners asked for a strong Green Energy Bill and a fair international climate deal in international talks in Cancun, Mexico. |
2011: Don't drop the ball More than 13,000 CAFOD supporters called on the UK government to champion a Green Climate Fund at climate change talks in Durban. The Fund has now been set up – we need to keep up the pressure to make sure this money gives long-term support to the communities that need it most. |
