Hold the UK government to its promises: Write to your MP
On 9 July 2011, the world’s newest nation was born. In this, the UK government has a crucial role to play. In 2005, as part of a peace agreement that settled decades of war, the UK government promised to stand alongside the Sudanese people and support their journey towards peace.
Please write to or email your MP, urging them to hold the UK government to account on their promise to promote long-term peace and development in north and south Sudan. Find out who your MP is .

The background
The referendum took place in January with the final results announced on the 7 February 2011. Over 98 per cent of southern Sudanese voted in favour of separating from the north.
This is an important step forward in the peace process, but CAFOD and our Sudanese Church partners know that huge challenges remain that could threaten the fragile peace.
