World AIDS Day

On 1st December, millions of people stood in solidarity with those living with and affected by HIV and AIDS.

This World AIDS Day we asked David Cameron to announce the government’s ambition to end AIDS within a generation. Thank you to everyone who took action with us. We know this year that while we remember the 30 million people who have died because of AIDS, and the millions more who live with HIV, we have cause to be hopeful for the future.

Thanks in part to your campaigning, our leaders share that hope. They're realistic about the long and challenging road ahead, but they know that with the right support we can do more to prevent new infections, provide better care and support and ensure access to treatment for those who need it.

In this spirit, David Cameron said that 1 December was more than just about reflection, but about renewed action. He stressed that the British government was signed up to the efforts of individuals, campaigners, charities and governments in the AIDS response, and was committed through its international aid promises and support for the Global Fund.

Nick Clegg acknowledged that with scientific advances in prevention we now have the potential to turn the tide on epidemic and “...set our sights on a world that is free finally of HIV”.

Thank you to everyone for reminding the government of the need to act on this crucial issue. It really has made a difference.
