Secondary schools: Lent Fast Day 2010

If you’d like to get everyone thinking about the point of giving something up for Lent, and then doing it for a good cause in a fun and interesting way this year, we hope you’ll enjoy our fresh approach for Lent 2010, called Give it up!

You can do it for one week, two, or even the whole of Lent. Everyone thinks about what would be a good thing to give up for a while. It could be chocolate, it could be video games. It probably isn’t green vegetables or homework.

Then they get sponsored to give that thing up and the money they raise is used to give a family in one of the poorest countries in the world something they really need. It might be bees for making honey. It might be clean water.

People are going to be giving it up in parishes and schools across England and Wales, with the goal of raising more money than ever before at Lent to help others.

Read some Give it up! fundraising success stories.

Watch the clip above to see how the money raised by giving up chocolate could be transformed into things that people in the world's poorest countries really need, such as bee keeping training for communities in Mozambique.
Use it in assembly as a Lent focus, with the educational activities and case studies online, or at youth groups or residential centres.
