Volunteer with us
What can you do as a volunteer?
Volunteers are a vital part of the work we do in the dioceses around the UK – helping to run our busy offices, visiting schools and youth groups to talk about our work, or organising sponsored events and campaign actions.
Get inspired by our volunteers
Melanie Cunningham is a CAFOD schools volunteer, and relishes her important role: "Having just walked away from a long career at Marks and Spencer I was wondering what I was going to do next… so the appeal in the parish newsletter for a schools volunteer working for CAFOD caught my eye.
"It’s an important role. If I can encourage just one child to support CAFOD in the future then, as far as I’m concerned, that's job done."
How can we help you?
Whatever you choose to do, you will have the full support of CAFOD staff and other volunteers. All our volunteers are offered training, covering a range of topics including speaking on behalf of CAFOD.
We also provide you with presentation aids and materials for your parish or school.
Where to start?
If you can offer some of your time to promote our work in your parish, school or dioceses, then please contact your local CAFOD diocesan office to find out what is available. From time to time, we also publish specific volunteering positions on this page which might be of interest for you.
CAFOD’s Gap Year Programme “Step Into The Gap” (SITG) is a gap year opportunity with a real difference. Successful applicants take part in a gap year which spans across UK and overseas placements, working with young people on aspects of faith, social justice, global issues and stewardship.
Previous countries we have worked in include; Kenya, Ghana, and Liberia. UK placements can be in either Youth Ministry’s (Just Youth, Salford, or YMT – Newcastle), or within schools chaplaincies in St. Mary’s Blackpool. The programme runs from September – July. Training and support are provided throughout the programme.
This fully funded programme is a great opportunity for those aged between 18-30 to explore their faith in an exciting new way, and to build lifelong connections across the globe. We are currently recruiting for opportunities starting in September 2012. Applications to the programme close April 30th 2012.
